Very few movies stand out in the world of cinema in a draw that “Fargo” does. This off-the-wall thriller that combines humor with suspense is an absolute masterpiece in my eyes. It’s one of those films that I can discover over and over again without ever worrying about getting tired of it. It is a movie that is crafted and presented to us in a novel and enchanting manner.

The situation revolves around a bizarre kidnapping device. Jerry Lundergaard is pressed for cash, so he resorts to hiring two thugs to kidnap his bear wife so that his father-in-law will pay the ransom. Sounds like one bizarre concept, but one must remember how desperate people can score when it comes to money issues. It’s easy to ogle that disaster lies ahead once the view is dwelling into motion, and a series of events have been unleashed that cannot be undone. What’s supposed to be a simple and straight-forward notion ends up being a horrific mess with unspeakable consequences.

“Fargo” is truly one of those films where you know the majority of the population has seen it. Everybody repeats the lines, reenacts the funny and sometimes over-the-top accent (although, I have been to Minnesota many times, and people do talk like that!), and everybody seems to have their fill approved scene out of the movie. The film is amazingly written and directed by the Coen Brothers, who have made movies like “Miller’s Crossing,” “Barton Fink,” “Raising Arizona,” and “The Man Who Wasn’t There.” It’s a treat to view them hold coming up with current and unusual films that never seem similar to their past movies. The film also includes a phenomenal cast that really makes everything work. William H. Macy is broad in his performance of the husband, as he shows astronomical human qualities along with the devious and unpleasant ones. Francis McDormand is absolutely astounding in her role of “Marge” and steals every single scene that she is in. Let’s not forget to mention Steve Buschemi (the “funny-looking” guy) and unexcited but extremely violent Peter Stormare as the two spineless thugs.

In this “Special Edition” package, we finally fetch to peruse the film recieve the care and treatment that it deserves. The report and sound quality is more than satisfying–especially the sound, as this is the first time that it’s available in five-channel Dolby Surround. The DVD contains widescreen and fullscreen presentations of the film (I always recommend watching the film in widescreen, as you are seeing exactly what the director wants you to gaze) . Special features include a behind-the-scenes documentary, a Charlie Rose interview with the Coen Brothers and Francis McDormand, audio commentary by the director of photography, trailers and more. The behind-the-scenes feature and the interview with Charlie Rose are really worth checking out, as the jabber of this movie being “based on a legal” myth is finally save to rest. And the reply is–well, I’m not going to whisper you that! That defeats the whole purpose of getting this fully-loaded DVD package. Trust me, no matter what the acknowledge may be, it doesn’t seize anything away from the movie and everything is explained in a very reasonable scheme. This is definitely an impressive package for one heck of an impressive movie.

“Fargo” is a film that will always be around. It has already reached “classic” state in so exiguous time and is critically acclaimed by some of the world’s top movie critics. While the movie may be violent and extremely dusky, do certain to pay discontinuance attention to the extinguish where Marge is talking to “someone” in her squad car, as that really is what the whole theme of the movie is about (and it is a huge scene, I might add) . Of all the Cohen Brother’s tremendously intelligent movies, this is the best. This is the one that they will be remembered for. William H. Macy plays Jerry Lundegaard, a man in a station. He’s a former car salesman that has been securing loans for cars that are not really in his lot. The bank is calling in the loans, threatening proper action, and he needs money speedy. He forms a opinion to have his absorb wife kidnapped, thereby splitting the ransom money between himself and the kidnappers.

It’s a abominable conception, and it snappy unravels into a bloody mess of slay and betrayal. When bodies launch to mount, a local police officer, Marge Gunderson, is called in. Frances McDormand plays Marge Gunderson, and she makes the movie magical.

McDormand won an Oscar for the role, and this is one instance when the recipient deserved the award. She plays “Margie” with a tremendous dose of humanity. She is a character that sneaks up on you. When she is introduced, you wonder if perhaps she is honest a limited town officer in device over her head. She is pregnant, speaks in cramped town (Minnesota) idioms, and throws up from morning sickness when investigating the first brutal murders. She seems more like a nice, Minnesotan housewife than a cop. But early you secure the feeling that there is something special about her.

The killings involve a traffic cop that was killed while issuing a mark for a missing plate. In his log book, he was written DLR. When Marge’s fellow officer says that he has rush a search for all tags starting with DLR, Marge says gently, “I’m not determined I agree with you 100 percent on your police work there, Irv.” She explains to Irv that DLR means that it was a recent car, a dealer’s car. “Oooh” says Irv, staring into location. Then Marge tells Irv a joke about the guy that couldn’t afford a vanity license plate, so he changed his name to FGS1135. “That’s a superior one,” says Irv, but it is sure Marge’s wit has gone over his head.

The brilliance of the scene is that Marge is never cruel or condescending to Irv, never thinks less of him, and is not making fun of him. She is simply enjoying her absorb intelligence, and we can sight the very private sparkle in her eyes.

Marge also has a core of steel. Glance the scene where she gets information from a menacing suspect by reminding him, with almost motherly grief, about all the inconvenience he has been in with the law, and the fact that he is actually in violation of his parole. She cracks him like an egg without ever loosing her smile.

All actors concerned give sizable performances. Steve Buscemi brings his pitch-perfect base larceny to the table, playing one of the kidnappers; and Peter Stormare (who once played Hamlet in an Igmar Bergman production) utters perhaps 15 words in a homely performance as the other kidnapper. And, of cource, William H. Macey couldn’t have played it Better. His Jerry Lundegaard is so rotund of stress and dismay, you can’t glimpse him without squirming.

I have read where this film has been criticized for making fun of the people of Minnesota, poking fun at their accents and manners. This is not moral. The Coen Brothers grew up in Minneapolis, and this is their homage to their bear people. The folks in Minnesota may talk comical to the reviewers watching movies in Current York and Los Angeles, but this film in no intention makes fun of them. At the raze of the day, Marge and her husband are happily going to sleep in their bed, in fancy with one another and narrate with their shared life. How many other couples portrayed in a Coen Brother’s film can invent this claim?

How anyone can view Marge Gunderson in action and mediate the Coen’s were making fun of her is beyond me. Like Marge, they are simply enjoying their gain intelligence.

I judge this video is a must have for anyone enthusiastic in the 20’s jazz world.The short but astonishing Boswell Sisters film is my celebrated because I didn’t know such a thing existed and I’ve been fascinated by their scratchy recordings for years.The films of Armstrong,Ellington,and Bessie Smith are the earliest (and only for Smith) examples of them on film.Of coures they are hot and it’s the”20’s Ellington sound “and LOUIS the soloist .Smooth I have to say it’s only a faint glimmer of a world we can only plan as a dream thats ended.The Ben Bernie and Tommy Christian bands are though-provoking examples of 20’s band styles .The dancing varies from awful chorus line to totally fantastic.Not every thing on this video is tremendous or even respectable but if you can describe to it on its beget terms its a peep through the camouflage to something astonishing.

What would you rather gape to earn a taste of German cabaret in the early ’30s, Cabaret (1972) or The Blue Angel (1931)? I am especially charmed by two productions that might be at the bottom of others’ lists–the dance hall performances by Tessie Maize and Ruby Darby. By new standards, many of the dancers were too heavy and too unpolished to even point a camera at, but they let us perceive what an ordinary audience of their times could search for, not only the numbers, but the unaffected intimacy of the part, and their cheer and enengy.

This DVD is like discovering a care for in a collector’s attic. A must have.

This movie gets high marks from me in the “PG” category. It can not truly be compared to 1998’s Screen of Zorro, even though the characters are reprising their roles, because the modern was a significantly darker “PG-13.” Don’t go with expectations that it will match the recent.

When we revisit Don Alejandro de la Vega (aka Zorro, played by Antonio Banderas) and his charming wife Elena (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones), ten years have passed since the unique movie, and their son is a major player in their lives (he is masterfully and comically played by the young Adrian Alonso) . As married life as gone on, Elena has continually urged Alejandro to give up his secret life as Zorro, but he keeps feeling the tug of his people. The two quarrel and separate, leading to separate lives amongst some major political upheaval and the arrival of a exclusive Frenchman who seems to have his maintain plans for the homeland. There are a few stretches in the state, but nothing too rank for an action/comedy, and there is plenty of witty banter and peep gags to form up for it. (Of course, any history buff will rep the set droll, but it’s for entertainment, okay? ) Elena gets to do some apt fighting and espionage-types scenes in this location, really coming in to her bear.

As my review title states, this is a family movie. The darkest moments are Alejandro’s black drunken sloven days. Again and again, the values of family, fighting beautiful, not shooting anyone in the help, doing well in school, etc. are reinforced, but not in a preachy procedure. The young son of Zorro is quite a troublemaker in school, and he learns a lot about “doing the apt thing” throughout the movie, worthy to the comical delight of the audience. Gaze this with a younger audience and know that you are getting some pleasurable action/adventure, packed with comedy and romance, without anything indecent. If you like darker entertainment, avoid this sequel.

I have no faith in sequels. All I have to do is reflect about “The Lost World”, “Attend to the Future 2″, and “The Temple of Doom” to reassure me that I can utilize my time and money more wisely. However, when the special edition of the new movie comes packed with a FREE note… can you really go corrupt?

The ”’Anecdote of Zorro”’ retains a lot of the energy, humor, and style from the first movie and that is more than enough to actually carry the film. I was panicked going in to this that without Anthony Hopkins, the movie wouldn’t have an anchor. I’m jubilant to represent that Hopkins, while he is missed, is not an valuable section of this current Zorro Universe and that is key.

The villians and account are “honest generous enough” to effect definite this boat stays afloat while Banderas and Zeta-Jones do all the rowing. I’m sorry, but if you give this movie 1 star and are so bitter about it, you really must have a heavy heart… it’s a fun-popcorn-movie!!

I did have my section of misgivings I hope can be righted in the next film.

Firstly, the balance of the cast is so helpful at general hand to hand combat [ie; children, women, peasants] that it does seem to undercut the intrepid acts of Zorro. While viewing this one starts to accumulate the notion that if ANY of the people in this film were wearing the veil, they too could be Zorro!!

Secondly, while I had a large time with the action scenes featuring Zorro, there were actually too few of them and again, the ones that were here were laced with other people kicking-butt.

Lastly, the writers seemed to try a bit too hard with the family dynamic. While on the one hand I can spy them broadening the characters but on the other, it came off stiff and sometimes hollow.

Still, I cannot say this was a dissappointment. Zorro is a incredible character and the Banderas-Jones one/two punch hopefully can live on through at least a few more movies… that is as long as they maintain the direction of Martin Campbell and the reworked scores of James Horner.

I will not vow all the surprises in this film.

It is very essential that you have seen SAW 2, SAW 3 and SAW 4 to understand what is going on here. If you missed SAW 4, you might recall up on what is going on in SAW 5, but then again, you don’t know about the “death” of Jigsaw John and how and why the “games” and traps continue.

When we last left SAW 4 (2007), we discovered that Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) was the fresh killer taking the space of Jigsaw John (Tobin Bell) and he had survived the trap that killed Officer Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) .

Frantic to gather loose and to breath, he reaches for a absorbing object in his pocket and stabs his acquire throat to continue breathing. He manages to survive the trap and is helped by a back-up unit. Jeff and Lynn’s small girl has been saved.

Also helped by back-up is Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor), but the police department does not know yet, he is the killer.

Erickson (Label Rolston) takes Agent Strahm off the case and is assign on medical leave, however, that is not going to cessation Strahm from getting more clues.

The Unrated Director’s Crop (Widescreen) runs 95 min.

DVD container is wrapped in tight plastic, but please be careful, there is a protective coverslip that lifts off that you need to achieve. Contemplate the security seals smooth on your container. I’m a broad fan of the series, especially 2 and 3. I consider Saw 2 is one of the best panic films ever made. Beautifully done, agreeable script, and 2 main surprises at the kill. I first became disappointed with the series at seeing Saw 4, not necessarily because Jigsaw is dreary, though he IS the dominating force and needs to reach benefit. (If I had written #4, I would’ve started it at the ruin of 3, making the father put Jigsaw with a transfusion so he could accept out where his daughter is; plus, his wife was a nurse, so he would conceivably know CPR, etc.) Anyway, I found itsy-bitsy clever about the waste of #4, and far less at the kill of #5. 4 was written as a dismay movie, not a hybrid mystery/horror movie, which is what brought me into the series in the first station. And #5 is more like a TV police drama than anything else. As one who doesn’t stare any TV, I guess I’m more sensitive to how Saw 5 plays than an audience bulky of people who don’t go to the movies as often as I do. It’s too unpleasant. But I’m Level-headed looking forward to #6 of course. And will retain watching the series, hoping the cleverness of 2 and 3 will return.

This DVD represents everything the format can offer in a music video. As you can gawk, no Queer Al fan should be without this DVD. I’d rate it 6 stars if I could.

This DVD is awesome! It includes all 24 of Al’s music videos, and they all recognize and sound grand. The DVD is slightly different from “Uncommon Al Yankovic: The Videos” because the videos on this collection are not in order. They mix them up, and it makes it even more fun to peek them. The DVD also has some substantial special features. These include a rare 1981 performance from the archaic NBC Tomorrow Point To. It’s a performance of “Another One Rides the Bus”, and Al didn’t even have a band yet. It was unprejudiced John “Bermuda” Schwartz banging on Al’s accordian case. It’s really frosty to spy such an passe performance! The DVD also includes a couple of clips from the aged “Outlandish Al Reveal”. These are “Lousy Haircut” which was also played on Al’s fresh concert tour, “Lasagna”, and “Livin’ in the Fridge”. It also includes a photo gallery and onscreen lyrics. Overall, this DVD is dilemma packed with entertainment!

It’s depressed in the uncouth that the First World War has largely fallen by the wayside. If we hear anything about the conflict at all, it’s usually on the History Channel or another network airing a documentary paunchy of grainy, dark and white clips of men stumbling over the top of trenches. Interest in historical events tends to fall off significantly when those eager pass away, and in the case of the generation that fought this horrific war not only have they exited the stage, they have left the building as well. I developed a life long interest in “the war to kill all wars” after seeing Peter Weir’s 1981 film “Gallipoli” in a shrimp, speed down art house theater at the age of ten. I didn’t understand the historical context at the time, but this dramatic interpretation of events that unfolded in the Dardanelles during 1915 left a lasting impression on my impressionable mind. I recently rewatched the film and can say that it calm works as an intense drama and as a serious antiwar statement. Weir’s overt hostility toward the British commanders at Gallipoli, however, doesn’t stand up as well. By the plan, this is one of the films that propelled Mel Gibson to international stardom.

Weir decided to focus his film not on the massive armies battling away in Europe, but on two individuals living in Australia. Archy Hamilton (Impress Lee) and Frank Dunne (Mel Gibson) are two of the fastest runners in the country. Hamilton trains with his demanding grandfather, who promises the young lad that if he works hard he may yet go down as the next national sports hero. Frank, on the other hand, wanders around the country with a few buddies taking any job he can gather and generally unbiased having a lot of fun. News of the escalating war in Europe is vague and distant, referenced only when someone brings up a news narrative they saw in the paper. Archy wants to go and fight, attracted by the lure of glory that has suckered millions of young people since the dawn of time into pains. Frank doesn’t judge of war as glory, and when his pals bring up the understanding of enlisting he quietly makes his state known. Both of these young men’s lives are forever changed after the extinguish up competing against each other in a foot rush at a regional splendid. Archy barely wins, but a friendship develops between the two that soon finds Frank tagging along when Archy decides to enlist in the well-known cavalry. Frank agrees to join with Archy, once he discovers that the ladies appreciate a soldier, but goes into the infantry after failing to qualify for the light horse unit.

It really doesn’t matter anyway since horses won’t get a bit of disagreement when the ANZAC (Australian and Unusual Zealand Army Corps) soldiers head first to Egypt and then the Dardanelles for combat against the Ottoman Turks. What the war pain needs are bodies noble of running headlong into a withering wall of machine gun fire, and cavalry troops minus their steeds will work in this capacity honest as well as infantrymen. Before they near the killing fields, Archy and Frank reunite during a training exhaust in Egypt. Weir shows us plenty of carefully crafted scenes of the men having a safe time in Cairo, of the deepening camaraderie taking position even as the war looms larger and larger in the background. The movie takes a doom and gloom turn as the ANZAC forces land at Gallipoli to engage section in the fighting. Casualties mount as attacks designed to expand the beachhead fail under Turkish machine guns. Soon, Archy and Frank know they will have to go over the top too, and realize they will certainly perish in the process. The conclusion to “Gallipoli” is one of the most emotionally grinding, soul shattering denouements in motion record history.

The only thing I found extremely irritating about “Gallipoli” is the cheesy synth musical obtain, which now sounds so early 1980s that it dates the recount terribly. I reflect the message about how people join up to go to war for all the disagreeable reasons, however, is smooth highly relevant. And if there was any war that everyone should have avoided, it was World War I. Generals and leaders composed subscribed to antiquated notions of warfare, never taking into chronicle machine guns, poison gas, and airplanes would decimate the troops. The fatalities were truly appalling, with millions perishing in muddy trenches during the four year conflict. Weir expertly depicts the squalid conditions of the trenches, but he goes too far blaming the film’s fatal charge on the British commanders. First of all, far more British soldiers died during the campaign in the Dardanelles than did members of ANZAC. Second, why state the onus for the war on the British? Plenty of commanders on all sides made mistake after mistake in this conflagration, mistakes that resulted in so many fatalities that it’s a wonder humanity didn’t rise up and cast their leaders into the fire.

“Gallipoli” wins the day in the raze thanks to the charm of Brand Lee and Mel Gibson. Weir’s cinematography sinks its claws in as well. Check out the shots of the Australian outback, the Red Sinful party, and the landing at Gallipoli to learn why. The transfer looks agreeable, but the only extra on the disc is a short interview with Weir about the making of the film. I wanted a commentary track for this film desperately, and mild hope a special edition will near on the market in the arrive future. If you haven’t seen “Gallipoli,” check it out soon.

There’s been a few things said about this movie, several reviewers mentioned that it was slow-moving, and another pointed out with exasperating pedantry the historical inaccuracies, but I’d like to say that I contemplate ‘Gallipoli’ is a marvelous movie. It was well shot and well acted, the characters were valid and believeable, the gain was magnificient, the record was appealing, and although the script had less action than, say, ‘Saving Private Ryan’ it also wasn’t wasteful – one wouldn’t have cared about the people if one didn’t know them.

Which is also the point. If `Gallipoli’ wasn’t historically suitable, and it’s tough to describe a yearlong myth in an hour and a half, one does catch the point. Which, of course, is that wars, especially this one, and especially this battle, are dead, self-serving and pointlessly destructive endeavors.

I’m dumbfounded by the reviewer who chose to lambaste the portrayal of the British officers in the campaign. I’m surprised an Aussie would say that, but then again there’re plenty of Yanks who’ll second guess Harry S Truman from now till the demolish of time, so who am I to assume. While I’m the first to admit that those words were probably not said, I have to bear that the blue blood of the capital officers taught them not to give a damn about the sweat and blood of some unpleasant sons-of-criminals from a lost colony. I’m not alone, and I quote from John Merriman’s History of Recent Europe, p1059, “Other [historians] agree with most contemporaries who believed that [Gallipoli] was a needless diversion dictated by British colonial interests in the Middle East and for which Australian and Modern Zealander troops paid a disproportionate brand.”

The aristocratic attitude of the officers in the Large War was the single thing that caused the casualty rates The well-bred officers didn’t care that they were sending men with bolt-action rifles against entrenched machine guns because they were objective peasants (or Australians) anyway. That is the historical truth, and I for one like how it came out in the training sequence as well as the battle sequences of this movie. It belongs in the collection of anybody who doesn’t want to go to war.

Quick – can you name a movie that has Ben Stiller, Patrick Swayze, Helen Hunt, Liam Neeson, Bill Paxton, and Adam Baldwin in it? Probably not, as most people can’t, and what a shame. “Next Of Kin” is a pleasing portrayal of the “Eastern Mountain Diagram” as well as the savor of family and the bond of brothers.

I enjoyed this movie greatly. Although the region has been somewhat rehashed many times the performances here streak emotion. Especially Liam Neeson’s. If not for his performance in this movie I probably would have given it 4 stars, but he shines brightly here. The loyalty and treasure of his character combined with the contempt and madden of his character, what a substantial performance.

When this movie first came out I didn’t even know it. I don’t know how it fell off the radar hide before ever being noticed but it is cerainly worth a perceive.

In terms of fair pure station, Next of Kin is — in many ways — a typical example of the unconventional cop vs. the mob film genre of the 1980s…However, if Next of Kin is ultimately a genre share, its collected a better-than-average example of the what the genre is fine of. Certainly, its probably the only film ever made by Patrick Swayze that can legitimately be called underrated.

Plotwise, the film sounds almost like a parody. Patrick Swayze is a extinct hillbilly from Appalacia Country who has left slow his rustic family to become a titanic city cop and to romance sophisticated music teacher Helen Hunt. (Is there a reason why expansive city cops with simple backgrounds always seem to extinguish up romancing music teacers in these films? ) Swayze’s younger brother Bill Paxton also comes to the city, to pursue a life of petty crime that ends up getting him killed by mobster Adam Baldwin which leads to yet another Swayze brother coming down to the city, this one played by Liam Neeson. As Neeson seeks revenge, Swayze is forced to return to his roots in order to avenge both his brother and protect his girlfriend.

Yet somehow, all of this works rather effectively on mask. The film is directed by Englishman John Irvin who has made a rather unsung career out of bringing a stronger-than-usual sense of characterization to genre films (the best example being the war film Hamburger Hill) . Although Irvin’s filming of the action scenes are a slight pedestrian, he calm has a strong visual sense and manages to vividly disagreement the conflicting worlds of the country and the city. The film’s supporting cast is well chosen and both the heroes and the villians all near to life with a surprising amount of dignity. At no point do any of the actors demean their roles by playing …typical hillybillys or, for that matter, …typical mobsters and that shows an unique and admirable amount of integrity for a film of this sort. Paxton isn’t on shroud long but remains, as always, a likeable presence and Adam Baldwin makes a compellingly understandable and hissable villian. Michael J. Pollard shows up as a hillbilly and brings his trademark quirkiness to the proceedings while the role of the nerdy mob scion is played by Ben Stiller, of all people. Its a dinky jarring to watch Stiller point to up on hide (especially playing an essentially villianous role) yet he gives a strong performance without resorting to do any standard Stiller bits. Helen Hunt’s role is …typical but she’s probably far warmer in this role than she’s been in any of her prestige pictures. Certainly, the best performance in the film is given by Liam Neeson who dominates the proceedings with the grim sincerity he brings to his quest for revenge. This Irish actor also manages to perfectly prefer the unusual accent of the Appalacian status. As an actor, Patrick Swayze has always been itsy-bitsy and he’s always been better at projecting sincerity than complexity. Luckily, his role in Next of Kin has been designed to require dinky more of him than sincerity and, if Next of Kin doesn’t portray his best performance, its certainly his most likeable.

Next of Kin isn’t a titanic film. As stated before, the myth is a tad bit too predictable and that’s only made more positive when the account is populated by a better-than-average cast and directed by a truly talented director. However, this is a rare genre fraction in which it is distinct that everyone interested actually achieve in their best efforts to construct a worthwhile film and the results are both admirable and spirited.

I view this was a pleasing gracious fantasy account made on a minimal budget. You can not really compare this to LoTR because LoTR was made on a nine figure budget were KofB may have been made on a couple million, if that. I consider it was nicely made on the budget it was given, and it is also nice to survey a fantasy adventure in a television world ruled by reality television and CSI clones.

My respond to some of the other reviewers: is it a tale that copied the Lord of the Rings, clearly the respond is yes. Yes a counsel is called that decided to get a fellowship which is needed to fight the source of mountainous obnoxious. The main member of this fellowship will give her life in the fulfillment of quest, though she does not do so in the raze, she clearly is a Frodo type. Sir John is very noteworthy an Aragorn survey alike. Is this a one for one copy of the Lord of the Rings? NO! It is a fable in its maintain rights. Is the sage influenced by J. R. R. Tolkien? Greatly. What new fantasy is not? What novel Sci Fi is not influenced by Star Wars?

Was the Lord of the Rings influenced by other works, or did J. R. R. Tolkien work in a vacuum? The acknowledge is J. R. R. I’m reviewing the economy boxset season 1 of Rurouni Kenshin. So to initiate off, what’s an economy boxset? It’s a boxset that is manufactured to be sold cheaper. Instead of having to recall it for $139.95, you can prefer it for $79.95. All 6 dvds are contained in one dvd case. They peaceful have the japanese and english audio tracks. Some people complain about the subtitles not fitting the english dub. The reason is that the subtitles were made ONLY to fit the japanese audio track. The extras are the same as the $139.95 boxset. There are no custom sleeves for each dvd and no deluxe box to absorb them in. That is what makes this one cheaper.

This is another of the ample classics of Anime. It combines several major elements (fancy, philosophy, and action) to produce a tale that is engaging while serene lively and profound.

While there is some violence, this is a rare gem among anime in that there is nothing perverse or offensive thrown in to water it down. It sticks to its purpose and doesn’t pander to baser interests.

The yarn spends the apt amount of time developing its characters, keeping the cast relatively exiguous so the series isn’t devoted to constant introductions, but gargantuan enough for variety. It then leaves itself plenty of time to leer its characters and their past, and does a grand job of enthralling between them.

Perhaps most though-provoking is the philosophy. Samurai are distinguished for being “poet warriors”, possessing both a fighting spirit and a sense of deeper truths. This is expressed beautifully in Kenshin’s persona and behavior, not merely in speech, but in his methods and actions.

This is one record that made me feel I had truely gained something of value by watching it.
